Campaign Launched to Shift the Shame: A Powerful Initiative in Belfast

We're proud to share that some of our female service users have contributed to a powerful campaign launched in Belfast, aimed at shifting the shame around homelessness and supporting women in need. The campaign highlights the unique challenges faced by women experiencing homelessness and the urgent need for tailored services and support.

A key part of the campaign, Shift the Shame, calls attention to the cycle of homelessness faced by women who experience violence in the home. As the campaign highlights, "Women who experience all forms of violence in the home in Northern Ireland are more likely to become homeless through lack of understanding, protection and support."

The project, launched on Monday, demands that Northern Ireland works together to shape key Steps to Safety that will protect women from the compounding cycle of homelessness. With statistics showing that police are called to a domestic abuse incident every 16 minutes, and almost 70% of victims of domestic abuse crimes being women, it’s clear that systemic changes are needed to support vulnerable individuals and prevent homelessness.

To read more about the campaign and how it's making waves in Belfast, check out the full article here.

We’re also committed to supporting women through our dedicated female accommodation services. If you’d like to learn more about how we’re providing safe and supportive housing for women in need, visit our services page.

Together, we can help raise awareness, provide the necessary support, and make a lasting impact on the lives of women experiencing homelessness.
